The kinds of architectural forms that would satisfy the function of a great historical museum like the Prado in Madrid, with its collection of traditional paintings, are likely to be different from the forms appropriate to the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York or to a monographic museum such as the Georgia O’Keefe Museum in Santa Fe.
