The man is six feet and three inches tall.

The man is six feet and three inches tall.

    My exercise book says
and should be deleted. I wonder if that is true.

    Thanks in advance.

Your book is certainly correct as far as American English goes. I don't know to what extent these antiquated units of measure are still used in British English.

The most natural way to say it is "six-three" (in the US).
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

I think six foot three is also perfectly natural.

Re: The man is six feet and three inches tall.

Imperial measurements are still commonly used, at least by older people, when talking about how tall people are. We usually say 'six foot three'.
