Already as a child, John had shown

Would you please correct the mistakes in my sentence. Is the phrase "led him to study" correct English?

Already as a child, John had shown interest in natural sciences, which later led him to study electronics.

    Perhaps:

When he was a child John was interested in natural sciences, which later led him to study electronics.

Re: Already as a child, John had shown

As a child John had already shown an interest in the natural sciences, and that interest later led him to study electronics.

Re: Already as a child, John had shown

Even as a child, John showed interest in natural sciences, which later led him to study electronics.

That seems OK to me, though I'd probably say 'an interest'.
