    If Clause + Passiv

    Hi folks,

trying hard to learn English. I would appreciate a lot if somebody could checkout the following sentces with which i try to grasp Conditional Clauses mixed up with Passiv constructions. Please take a look:

If John F Kennedy is to be elected as President, he must be given a weak competitor.

If John F Kennedy was to be elected as President, he would have to be given a weak competitor.

If John F Kennedy had been to be elected as President, he would have had to be given a weak competitor.

    Thanks a lot.

None of the above sentences works. Try,

If John F. Kennedy was to win the election, he had to face a weak rival.
