don't want to be too sure

    Hello,

I was hoping if someone could explain the meaning of "We don't want to be too sure."

A: We have not seen any police tonight and don't want to be too sure about that, so let's get out of here quickly.

Thank you for your consideration and help.

    Context? Source and author?

It's not possible to understand the sentence without more context.

Re: don't want to be too sure

I am sorry, I should have provided the context before.
A: I want to race tonight and finish it before cops shows up. You generally don't find cops in this part of the town.
B: We have not seen any cops yet, but we don't want to be too sure of that.

Again, I apologize for not giving the context before.

You've provided the context, but could you also tell us the source please?

Re: don't want to be too sure

I heard it on a tv show called Street Outlaws.
I tried to look it up on fraze.it, but it showed only 2 results for don't want to be too sure.
Thank you all for your help
