I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

Mother told Robert that if he carried on heavy drinking and taking drugs, he would't make it past 30.

You can only start with "Mother" if you're talking about your own mother, or if the woman has been referred to throughout previous text as "Mother" as a title. Otherwise, use "Robert's mother told him that ...". Also, use "drinking heavily".
