    a. They made it so small that nobody might see it.

    Does this mean
    1. They made it so small that nobody would see it. (it was their intention to make it invisible)
    or
    2. They made it so small that maybe nobody would see it. (the result was such that it was possible that nobody would see it)
    ?

    The phrase out of context like that doesn't really mean anything. With more context I suppose it could possibly mean what you say.
