    getting accustomed

I’m having problems getting accustomed to the climate.
The sentence above should be fine. The next sentence probably not.
I’m having problems to get accustomed to the climate.

Please tell me the grammar behind it. Why is the second sentence wrong?

My understanding is that, in "have problems / issues / trouble V-ing," the gerund may be
analyzed as the object of an omitted preposition. Note that we can easily add "with" and
that, if we do, the parsing goes smoothly with the gerund and hideously with the infinitival:

I'm having problems with getting accustomed to the climate. [grammatical]
*I'm having problems with to get accustomed to the climate. [ungrammatical]

We, at least in AmE, use the same construction with "fun" -- "have fun V-ing" -- and I
believe that that construction is felicitously analyzed in the same manner; e.g., I'm having
    fun [with] analyzing this construction
. / *I'm having fun [with] to analyze this construction.

I hope TheParser shares with us his take on this.

    Re: getting accustomed

I am having problems getting accustomed to the climate.

This actually happened to me when I went to live and work in India, and this is exactly how I would have expressed my feeling.
