    [grammar] tag questiona

I would like to know if the sentence "I'd sit there before I asked for permission, wouldn't I" is grammatically correct sentence.

    Re: [grammar] tag questiona

It would be grammatically correct if it ended with a question mark. It doesn't make any sense though.
    I am not a teacher.

Can you describe the context in which you intend to use it?

    Re: [grammar] tag questiona

I found this sentence in one of the official finals in my country and it didn't make any sense for me. That's why I asked about it. I tried to tell the teacher but she said it's correct.

What do you mean by official finals?

    Re: [grammar] tag questiona

In my country at the end of the final year of highschool, they put official exams for all subjects so students all around the country have the same exams. English is one of the subjects. The teacher was telling us about some questions that were in last year's exam and this is one of them.
The question asked to complete the sentences using tag questions and this was one of the sentences.
"I'd sit down there before I asked for permission _________"

I'm really sorry if I made grammatical mistakes.
    Thanks for responding.

Yes, it is grammatically correct. It's an odd example, though. What did you think was wrong with it?

As mentioned above, that sentence is possible but in very limited contexts. For example,

A: Did you like your neighbours when you were a child?
B: No, we had a nasty old man living next door, and I really enjoyed irritating him now and again. He hated it when kids went near his veranda.
A: So how did you irritate him?
    B: I'd sit down there before I asked for permission, wouldn't I?

In the above, "wouldn't I?" roughly functions as "do you understand?" or "can you see?"

I couldn't think of a situation I could use this sentence in.
I thought maybe they made a mistake. For example if they put past participle form of sit I could put hadn't I at the end it would make more sense.

    See above.

It would be grammatical as "I would have sat there before asking for permission, wouldn't I?", "I sat there before asking for permission, didn't I" or "I had sat there before asking for permission, hadn't I?"
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
