    He/she (did)

    Hi English people,

    1. (Talking about a couple) I think he murdered the victim, or maybe she.
    2. I think he murdered the professor, or maybe she did.

    Are both of these sentences correct? And if they aren't, why can't you omit 'did'? I've tried looking it up on Google, but I really don't know the right keywords to look for.

    No. Only (2) is, and I recommend changing "or" to "but": "I think he murdered the professor, but maybe she did."

    In that sentence, both "he" and "she" would be stressed: "I think he murdered the professor, but maybe she did."

    And if they aren't, why can't you omit 'did'?
    That's not an easy question to answer. But it's a great question.
