    The local authorities have imposed

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural. Would you please correct my mistakes?

The local authorities have imposed draconian measures to prevent teenagers from consuming alcohol; namely they have forbidden young people until 19 years of age to stay in the streets after 10 pm.

Re: The local authorities have imposed

Your "until" is wrong. They have forbidden people under 19 years of age.

The natural way to write what you are trying to say is that they have put in place a 10 PM curfew for anybody 18 or younger.

Just to be sure I have understood SoothingDave's corrections I am writing my sentence again. I hope it sounds natural.

I'm not too happy with namely, since you're not naming anything. Could you think of an alternative way?

Re: The local authorities have imposed

    jutfrank,

Honestly, I am not sure which word should I use. But if try, could I use "that is" or "i.e."?

Re: The local authorities have imposed

Bassim -- Perhaps I was being too strict about your use of namely. I meant to be critically constructive (because I know how good your English is!) Regardless of what I think about the use of namely, your sentence sounds natural enough, yes. Sorry to confuse.

Re: The local authorities have imposed

    You can just omit "namely."

    jutfrank,

Thank you anyway. I like to hear advice and criticism, especially when they come from teachers. English is your mother tongue, while I am still learning it, and sometimes I am not sure if I have used a proper word. But it feels great that there are people on this forum ready to help with good advice.
