    Comma before 'etc.'

I have read that whether you use a comma before "etc." depends on whether yiu use the Oxford comma or not.

If I do not use the Oxford comma, but I do use the comma before "etc.", is it fine?

Yes, it's fine if you think you can justify it.

Remember, punctuation 'rules' are not intended to make life difficult. They are there mostly to make your writing clearer and easier to read.
