    speaking about ... ,

Hello! Could you please help me understand if this sentence is correct: “Speaking about vegetarians, they choose this way of life for a number of reasons”?

I’m wondering if the subject ‘they’ can be used just after the introductory phrase ‘speaking about vegetarians”?

I’ve heard an opinion today (from a non-native speaker) that you need to use a different subject before the subject ‘they’. For example, ‘Speaking about vegetarians, I think / in my opinion they choose this way of life for a number of reasons’.

Could you please say how far it is true.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Re: speaking about ... ,

This appears to be a near-duplicate of this

It is. I've closed the other one.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
