Bob promised himself never ever to taste alcohol again

Would you please help me and correct the mistakes in my sentence.

Bob promised himself never ever to taste alcohol again, since the day he, drunk, jumped into the river and almost drowned.

Re: Bob promised himself never ever to taste alcohol again

    teechar,

I felt my sentence does not sound correct, but unfortunately, I was unable to correct it myself.

I wanted to say that he promised himself never to drink again, since the day he jumped into the river while being drunk, and almost drowned.

Use "after" instead of "since" and take out "being." Also, did you mean "fell" instead of "jumped?" Finally, go easy on the commas.
    Try again.

Re: Bob promised himself never ever to taste alcohol again

    teechar,
I meant to say "he jumped," just like some intoxicated people do when they come to the beach and want to take a bath and believe they can jump and swim as people around them do.
    Let me try again:

Bob promised himself never ever to taste alcohol again after the day he jumped into the river while drunk and almost drowned.
