The first results of the local by-election

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

The first results of the local by-election between the Labour's and the Conservative's candidates show a neck and neck competition.

Re: The first results of the local by-election

In the UK a by-election has only one result.

You need to say 'the Labour and Conservative candidates'.

'...a neck and neck competition' is unnatural. One of them would have won, maybe by a very narrow majority, but a dead-heat is, I think, unheard of in a UK election.

Bassim, you can do much better than that. Consider "early/initial results from the by-election", and say "the Labour and Conservative candidates." Try again.

Re: The first results of the local by-election

    Here is my second try:

The early results from the local by-election between the Labour and the Conservative candidates show a dead heat.

Re: The first results of the local by-election

I repeat: if you're talking about a UK by-election there are no early results. There's only one result - after all the votes have been counted.

In what country is this by-election taking place?

    Rover_KE,

I understand what you are saying. It is true that in the UK there are no early results regarding by-election. My second try was after teechar told me to try again. My concern was to write a grammatically correct sentence without naming the country.
