    tapped ... as/for

    PALM BEACH, Fla. President Donald Trump has tapped Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster as his new national security adviser, replacing the ousted Michael Flynn.

    Is the underlined as in the above interchangeable with for? Thanks.

    You might hear it said that way but I would not recommend it. You could replace as with "to be".
    I am not a teacher.
