    Is "away" necessary or maybe even wrong in these sentences?

    We live in Europe which is not that far away from Africa.
    Please go away. We don't want you here.
    My opinion is far away from yours.
    She wants to move away from Alabama and start a new life elsewhere.

    Had you numbered them, I would say #1, #2 and #4 are fine with or without "away", and #3 doesn't work with or without it.

    #3 could be "My opinion is a long way from yours".

    On a technical note, some parts of Europe are a very long way from Africa!
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
