    They are both grammatically correct. Previous context would tell us which one is correct in a specific case.

    For example, a teacher at the end of class notices that someone left their book behind. The teacher might hold up the book and say to the students:

    Oh, before you go, whose book is this?

    or

    I found this under my desk. Whose book is it?
