    "She smelled like flowers because she had had a shower.

    I think I have a fine understanding of past perfect, however, there's something I am not sure about.
    "She smelled like flowers because she had had a shower." That part I understand.

    But if you start with "because", do I still have to use past perfect?

    Because she had had a shower, she smelled like flowers.
    OR
    Because she had a shower, she smelled like flowers.

    "Because she had had shower, she smelled like flowers." looks odd to me, because of the rule that if actions follow each other you use past simple as in for example: She had a shower, then she brushed her teeth and then she went to sleep.


    Thank you for clarification of this particular issue.

    The past perfect is natural whether you start with "because" or use the more natural word order in "She smelled like flowers because she had had a shower."
