uneven phenomenon spotted on the surface

Which sounds more natural between the two? Doesn't "phenomenon" sound natural? What is the difference between "spot" and "find"?

    1. uneven phenomenon spotted on the surface of the item.
    2. unevenness found on the surface of the item.

    Phenomenon is not right.

    Could you give some context?
