A young man was gravely wounded

I am wondering if my sentences sound natural. Would you please correct my mistakes?

A young man was gravely wounded in a shoot-out between two rival gangs. He would have probably bled to death, if the doctor, who accidentally walked by, had not stopped and given him first aid.

Re: A young man was gravely wounded

If he lived, he wasn't gravely wounded. It's like saying no one died in a fatal accident.

And as Teechar notes, the doctor didn't accidentally walk by. She might have walked by fortunately or luckily, but not accidentally.

I disagree with that. "Gravely" just means very seriously.
