Exclamation How to use "assist" together with "has a key role in" in a sentence??

    Hi,

Is this sentence correct?, and how can we use "assist" together with "has a key role in" in a sentence?

"Language has a key role in assisting people in understanding the world around them".

    See above.

For a sentence that uses "has a key role" with "assist", try:

    A: And what about Mike?
B: Mike has a key role in ensuring that everyone on the team can assist with the project.

You know, as I did not want to use the overused expression "play a key role in", I'd written it as "has a key role". Isn't that correct?
Moreover, since I want to use another verb instead of "help", I chose "assist" instead. I'd like to know the possible usages of "assist" in this sentence.

"Play a key role in" is not overused. It's widely used and natural. "Has a key role" does not always substitute for it. I was hoping you would see that from the example I gave. There are other situations in which they are not interchangeable. In your sentence, either would work, but I feel that "plays a key role" fits better.

    Again, "help" works better.

Your "assisting people in understanding" is correct but is too wordy. Using "helping" is more natural.
