    participle

Hello dear members of this forum,

I have a question related to participle. Here it is,

..... an umbrella, I got really wet.

    A) Having not B) Don't have C) Not having D) Haven't got

I would choose the answer C) Not having , but to tell the truth I just sense it right.

    Could you help?

    Re: participle

Because the participial phrase 'Not having' modifies the subject 'I'.
    I am not a teacher.

We know it's correct. It's the only answer that's grammatical and makes sense.

Why do you think it's not correct?

    OK.
"A" is wrong because it requires a past participle verb after "not"; e.g.
Having not had the privilege of being in possession of an umbrella, I got really wet.

"B" and "D" are wrong because the tenses don't match, a conjunction is required, and because they need a subject at the start; e.g.

I didn't have an umbrella, so I got really wet.

I appreciate you all for your replies. I didn't complain about your answers to my question. I just wanted to know the reason why you think so.

It would have been better to ask "How do you know that's the right answer?" Saying "Why do you think it is correct?" suggests that you think we are not certain about the answer.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
