    Robert bought a second-hand piano

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

Robert bought a second-hand piano, which turned to be a bad purchase when he noticed that it was infested by bugs.

Re: Robert bought a second-hand piano

His piano is, tragically, infested with bugs.

A couple of weeks ago I heard an odd "ping" from my piano. Thinking it might have been the sound of some kind of trouble, I looked inside and saw that one of the many stinkbugs that have infested our region and our house had landed with these bugs' usual panache - that is, like a very small lead pipe - on the strings in the instrument's top octave. The one saving grace of stinkbugs is that they are oddly docile; I was able to extract it and dispose of it with little trouble.

    Yuck!
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

    Charlie,
    What about this version:

Robert bought a second-hand piano, which he later realized was a bad purchase infested with bugs.

While it's literally true that his purchase was infested with bugs, that thought will bring the reader to a screeching halt. You need a less tenuous connection between the infestation and the piano.
