Is this dialog good or does it need improvement?
Q.: Do you think he's a member of the mafia?
A.: No, he's not even Italian. Eating pizza and spaghetti all the time doesn't automatically make you a member of the mafia, though he loves guns and sometimes shows odd behavior.
It depends on what it's for (a short story? a script?), on the speakers are (working class? middle class? law enforcement? young? old? male? female? where?), and the situation (a high school class? a bar? a tennis match? a gun fight?).
Flesh it out more and we can give you more useful opinions.
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.
If you're specifically referring to La Cosa Nostra (the Sicilian group), I believe it is still capitalised - the Mafia. However, "mafia" is now a common noun as well, referring to similar criminal groups in other regions and other countries.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
