Hello. I have two questions
1- The teacher did not allow the class to leave before 4:30.

A. The teacher made the class to stay until after 4:30.
B. The teacher made the class not leave until after 4:30.
C. The teacher made the class stay until after 4:30. (key)
D. The teacher made the class leave after 4:30.
Why aren't B and D chosen, please?

2. Leather gloves last longer than plastic ones.
A. Plastic gloves last not as long as leather ones. (key)
B. Plastic gloves last shorter than leather ones.
C. Plastic gloves don't last as much as leather ones.
D. Plastic gloves don't last as long as leather ones.
Why isn't D chosen, please?

Hello. I have two questions
1- The teacher did not allow the class to leave before 4:30.

A. The teacher made the class stay until 4:30.
B. The teacher made the class stay until 4:30. After is wrong. They could leave at 4:30.
C. The teacher made the class stay until (delete after) 4:30. After is wrong.
D. The teacher made the class stay until 4:30. No. The students could leave at 4:30.
Why aren't B and D chosen, please? Because they're wrong. B is inside-out English. D is not accurate because the students could leave at 4:30.

Choice A is closest to correct.

2. Leather gloves last longer than plastic ones.
A. Plastic gloves don't last (or do not last) as long as leather ones. Last not as long isn't natural.
B. Plastic gloves wear out faster than leather ones. Not shorter isn't natural or grammatical.
C. Plastic gloves don't last as long as leather ones. Much refers to quantity. Long refers to time and distance.
D. Plastic gloves don't last as long as leather ones. Good!
Why isn't D chosen, please? D is correct. Choice A is inside-out English.

In a very few places, after can mean at. Where I live (the state of Maine, USA), people often say "Come after 3:00" to mean "Come at 3:00."

But that's a regional quirk, and it often confuses newcomers (like me).

Maybe your teacher is from Maine!

1B. doesn't sound good. We don't generally use make somebody not do something.
1D. is not true. The class was free to leave after 4:30.

2D is correct, not 2A.
