    Re: Meaning of various

You can have various dresses and various types of dress- it depends whether the shop is selling one type with some differences or types that differ, through length, style, etc.

    Re: Meaning of various

Are you trying to say there are a lot of choices? Then you can say:

    - There's a variety of dresses in the shop.
    - The shop has a variety of dresses.

    Re: Meaning of various

    To me,

various dresses = several individual dresses (maybe or maybe not of the same type)
various types of dresses = several types of dress

Each of the above is a type of dress. You can have types of anything: for example, houses, cars, people, etc. But be careful in using type in relation to people or societal things. It can get VERY controversial.
