The symptoms of respiratory infection includes

Do I use 'symptoms' or 'symptom' in the sentence below:

The symptom/symptoms of respiratory infection includes sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and fever.

I think 'includes' agrees with 'respiratory infection'. Since more than one symptom is named, I think 'symptoms' should be used.

    Is this sentence correct?
    - "The symptoms of respiratory infection include sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and fever."

    Thank you!

    The symptoms...include... is correct.

    Say a sore throat.

Re: The symptoms of respiratory infection includes

I would not say a sore throat. At least in American English, the indefinite article doesn't belong there.

Re: The symptoms of respiratory infection includes

You could use include[s] to make both forms correct.

I don't understand what you meant by using: 'include(s)' to make both forms correct.

Includes in terms of singular and plural forms?

    Both forms refer to ?

    Thank you!

Re: The symptoms of respiratory infection includes

If you want to use symptom/symptoms, then the verb should reflect this choice.
