As the doctor palpitated David's wound

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

As the doctor palpitated David's wound, David gave a long, agonising moan.

The verb you need is palpated.

    Say 'agonised' instead of 'agonising'.

An agonising moan would be one which is excruciatingly painful to hear. While that is not impossible, "agonized" (American spelling) is more likely here.
    I am not a teacher.
