    Dig your heels in

I have tried to use "dig your heels in" in my sentence. Would you please correct my mistakes?

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon had dug her heels in and said that the referendum on independence would be held no matter what the UK government decided.

    Re: Dig your heels in

It's OK if you have a reason to use the past perfect 'had dug' instead of the simple past.

    Re: Dig your heels in

I think I made a mistake. I should have used the simple past.

    Re: Dig your heels in

The present perfect would work there too.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
