    What do we call nations?

Please correct me. I am trying to figure out the most common ways of naming ancient nations (these are collective plural nouns as I see it ):
    the Egyptians
    the Indians
    the Celts
    the Gauls
    the Russians
    the Vikings
the Byzantine (I wonder what was the name of their state by the way?)
    the Romans
    the Greek
Thank you in advance and my love to all you guys, you 've been so helpful fo many years!

Wikipedia says the citizens of the Byzantine empire referred to it as the Roman Empire and to themselves as Romans.

Some of those are peoples rather than nations- territories were less strictly defined in many places.
