    Bob was sent on assignment

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

Bob was sent on assignment to South America, where he collected a large amount of folk tales.

Re: Bob was sent on assignment

It's better style (in my opinion) to collect a large number of something countable, though you will also hear "amount".
    I am not a teacher.
