    Helicopter

    Hi,

    Is the following passage correct?

Is it correct to say: "We do a flightseeing tour over Rio de Janeiro by helicopter"

    Re: Helicopter

Yes, that's fine. Even though I've never heard the word flightseeing before, the meaning of the sentence is very clear.

One lives and learns. I was going to say we can't endorse a word which is in no dictionaries, but looked it up to be on the safe side and there it is - in Oxford, no less.

    Re: Helicopter

I hadn't heard it until today but I like it.

I had, however, seen "frightseeing" used on a website which advertised tours of haunted buildings.

    Re: Helicopter

Personally, I don't like it because it implies one is seeing "flights" and because it cuts out the word "sight" which I do like.

I think I'll take a tightseeing tour of a distillery.

    Re: Helicopter

I'm going to try to visit the tallest buildings in the world - I'm going "heightseeing".

    Re: Helicopter

I'm going to visit Svalbard in June and stay up all night. Lightseeing has always appealed to me.

Is there a more appropriate word than "flightseeing"?
