One ship Barnim had been repaired a year earlier or a year before

    Hello.

In 2016, two ships belonging to XXX and YYY, underwent repairs in dry-docks of AMIGO Shipyard. One ship Barnim had been repaired a year earlier.

Should the second sentence be written "One ship Barnim had been repaired a year earlier" or "One ship Barnim had been repaired a
    year before"?

    Thank you.

You can use either. They both mean the same.

    Delete the comma after YYY.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Or add one after "two ships". I prefer Barb's version though.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
