'so far' followed by Present Pefect Tense?

    Hello.

So far, the ship has borne the name of “Jarek” and sailed under the flag of a Polish ship-owner. “Amuleth” has gone into dry-dock no.5, where the underwater hull and equipment are being surveyed. In the future, the ship will probably be repainted in the ship-owner’s traditional colours.

All my life I have been taught that "so far" or "thus far" is always used in connection with Perfect Tenses, for instance, The Present Perfect Tense. The reason why I am asking is that the last sentence tells about repainting the ship, hence connection to the present may be broken off.

Am I on the right or wrong track?

    Thank you.

Re: 'so far' followed by Present Pefect Tense?

I don't see any cause for confusion. The "so far" only applies to the first sentence. But in any case, it is perfectly okay to have a sentence with a mix of tenses.

So far, the ship has borne the name of “Jarek”, and that was the name given to it by the local mayor, but now that ship is in dry dock, and next year, it will be refurbished and probably re-registered under a new name.
