The ability to install a drum with a spill barrier aboard will enable them to fight

    Hello.

In the sentence in question, I meant to say that by installing on deck an icebreaker an oil containment kit (to be precise, a drum is to be installed on deck from which (the drum) hoses will be lowered onto the surface of water to separate the contaminated water from cleaan water), such an icebreaker will be adapted to fulfill the function of fighting oil spills.

In other words, an icebreaker will be adapted to fulfill the function of fighting oil spills thanks to the ability to install on her deck an oil containment kit.

Is it enough to say "an oil containment kit" rather than "a drum from which (the drum) hoses will be lowered onto the surface of water to separate the contaminated water from clean water"?

The question in question is as follows:

The ability to install a drum with a spill barrier aboard will enable them to fight oil spills.

    What is your opinion?

    Thank you.

Re: The ability to install a drum with a spill barrier aboard will enable them to fig

It's difficult to give advice concerning the use of specific, technical vocabulary.

Are you asking about the use of drum with a spill barrier or oil containment kit?

From what you've explained, oil containment kit seems to me as good a way of saying it as anything, but you have to think of the person whom you are going to speak or write to. Do you think it will be clear to them? Would they have a different way of putting it?

I am sorry to be answering so late. When you type an "oil spill containment boom", a lot of pictures can be found on the Internet. One picture shows a stand with a flat red hose wound around it. I wish I could copy and paste this drawing inside this post for you to see what I mean. Then it would be easier for me to decide on the name of the device. Is it possible to copy and paste in the post? If so, how can it be done?

I am not sure if the name is not too professional. The thing is that I would like people at the other end to understand what I mean.

Who are these people? Do you think they would understand oil spill containment boom? It's hard for us to advise you what to say because we do not know who these people are.

My guess is that they are people who have some knowledge of marine/maritime/shipyard-related matters.

In that case I guess they will understand well enough.
