    time-to-event

Please make the following in red clear for me.

The main outcome was incident cancer. Time-to-event analyses were to estimate familial risk and heritability with follow-up via cancer registries. Statistical models adjusted for age and follow-up time and accounted for censoring and competing risk of death.

In the above, what is 'time-to-event'?
And would you please paraphrase the last sentence in easier English? Especially, what does 'censoring' mean in the context?

    Thank you.

Incidentally, are you sure this was copied correctly? The first sentence seems to be missing a 'performed' as in 'were performed', while the second should be 'were adjusted'.
Thank you for the answer. It has been very helpful.
And as you pointed out, I copied incorrectly the second sentence. "Time-to-event analyses were used to estimate..." I copied the rest correctly.
