While Peter's wife was undergoing an operation

Would you please correct the mistakes in my sentence?

While Peter's wife was undergoing an operation, he was pacing up and down the waiting room like a caged animal, wishing to be beside her.

Re: While Peter's wife was undergoing an operation

It's not entirely clear who "he" is. If "he" refers to Peter, I would write it as follows:

While his wife was undergoing an operation, Peter was pacing up and down the waiting room like a caged animal, wishing to be beside her.

Re: While Peter's wife was undergoing an operation

I agree with the swap of "he" and "Peter" but I would end with "wishing he was beside her" or "wishing he could be beside her". In fact, given the situation, I would probably say "at her side" rather than "beside her". "At her side" gives more of a suggestion of caring for the person.
