If I remember correctly it is a fencing term meant to indicate an adjustment to the latest maneuver, regroup or a change of strategy. Something like dodge and parry, but the word dodge is wrong. Fein and parry? That doesn't sound right either.
Example, "I know I told you to sell him the convertible, but when he said he hated the sun why didn't you regroup and sell him the sedan?"
