In case of emergency, do not use lift.

In case of emergency, do not use lift.

Is the comma after "emergency" optional?

    Thanks.

If the 'In case of emergency' comes first, use the comma.

    Re: Is the comma optional?

If it's your responsibility to create such a warning sign, TE, use a comma.

In real life, I think you'll find that it's the lift (AE elevator) manufacturers/installers who put up those signs.

I frequently see - with considerable annoyance - warning signs reading

    IN EMERGENCY
    DO NOT USE LIFT
    USE STAIRS
