Dear all,

I just wanted to let you know that we are having some work undertaken on our server this coming Friday 28th April at around 2AM GMT for a short period. This is to allow some of the server hardware and software to be upgraded. The UsingEnglish.com site will be offline during the work and therefore you will not have access to our pages then.

We have tried to schedule this work at a time when the site is less busy than usual so that it will impact as few people as possible. We apologise in advance if this timing causes any inconvenience.

Due to the nature of these tasks there is the possibility that errors and bugs may be introduced as a result of the upgrade. We will obviously be working to keep issues to a minimum and hope that for most people that the upgrade will not be noticed. However, we will be working hard to resolve any issues caused by this work as fast as possible. If you do spot anything then please contact us by using our contact form at https://www.usingenglish.com/about/contact/ or by emailing us directly at info [AT] usingenglish.com.

I will post updates here about our progress.

Thanks :)

But this should make things faster, so when access is back, enjoy.

This server upgrade was actually postponed to Sunday 7th May and has now been completed.

As expected, there was a period of downtime. However, we were out of action much longer than we expected to be because the upgrade turned out to be much more difficult than anticipated. Thankfully the process is pretty much over now and the site is running well again.

Due to the nature of these things, there may be a handful of posts that could have got lost when the machines were switched over on Sunday night. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
