    There are so succesful

It might seem there would not be enough food to support such giants on this relatively small island. But reptiles need only about a tenth of the food a carnivorous mammal would. A single meal will last a dragon a month. There are so succesful that their only serious competition comes from others of their own kind.

At this paragraph, I do not understand usage of ''There''. Can I replace ''there'' with ''they'' at the sentence?

    Thanks for your help!

'There' is a typo. It should be 'they'.
