    Talkig about unspecified past time

If i'm talking about completed actions at an unspecified time in the past, should i automatically use the persent perfect ? Or only if it's describing the present result of completed action ?
Second question : is it possible to use past simple with an unspecified time period ?

    1. I saw it before.
    2. I have seen it before.

    I think both are possible.

Re: Talkig about unspecified past time

The problem with such questions is that there is no context. With the sentences in the first post, there mist be some context - 'it' must refer to something known to the speaker and their audience. It is only when we know the context that we can say whether the past simple, the present perfect, or the past perfect is the most appropriate form.

All we can say in the absence of any context is that all the forms are possible.
