    Hello all,

Can we use present perfect tense and past perfect in the same sentence, does this sound natural?

    1) I haven't spoken with him yet and last week I couldn't speak with him because by the time I called him he had already left for office.
    2) I haven't spoken with him yet and last week I couldn't speak with him because by the time I had called him he already left for office.

    Many thanks

    Use 1.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
