Hello, I'm finishing my BA paper devoted to misunderstandings on the basis of jokes according Yus' classification of relevance theory. I have to admit that jokes based on wrong interpretation of an explicit stimulus are extremely easy to find and to analyze, that is why this part of my paper is, I think, the best. However, I have numerous problems in finding and analyzing jokes based on wrong interpretation of an implicit stimulus accoding to the relevance theory. Would you be so kind to give me few examples of these jokes because it could help me to finish my paper? Best regards.
For those of us who aren't linguistics students, can you post a non-vulgar example of this kind of joke? (I know one candidate, about a wistful discussion of something a male dog is doing, but it's not suitable for this forum.)
-Alan you remind me of a sea.
-So, you think I'm romantic and wild?
-No, it's because you make me sick.
And the second one:
Boy: Angela, since I met you I can't eat, I can't drink...
Girl: Is it because you love me so much?
Boy: No, it's because I have no money left.
The joke I thought of matches this pattern. Your UsingEnglish.com account is too new for you to receive private messages (you need ten posts for that feature to be available), so I've sent it to you by the forum's email feature.
