    Hello,

I am currently working as a temporary teacher at the district that I live in. I work with ELL/ monolingual students. I am enrolled at Capella University in a Master’s program; the purpose of this assignment is to inquire a discussion in regards of assessing ELL students. I would like to hear different opinions about the issue of assessing ELL students. One of my questions would be.

What assessment does your state use?

Who gives the initial assessment to the ELL student?

Do you think it is correct to assess ELL/ monolingual students as soon they arrive in the U.S.? If yes, why? or why not?

Do you know how often the English teachers at your school do assessments to the ELL students?

I will appreciate and welcome any opinions on this matter. I would love to hear your comments and discussion.

    Sincerely,

    Carmen D. Ruiz
