    Phrasal verb "start on"

I have tried to use "start on", meaning criticising in my sentence. Are my sentence grammatically correct?

As soon as David came home, his wife started on him about coming too late. His explanation that he had met an old schoolmate only made her furious. "I'll give you one last chance," she said.

    Re: Phrasal verb "start on"

In BrE, she "started [going] on at him". You might also hear she "started in on him".

Use "about coming home so late".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: Phrasal verb "start on"

Change "coming too late" to "being late" and consider saying "only made her more furious."

    Re: Phrasal verb "start on"

I will repeat my sentences again after your corrections.

As soon as David came home, his wife started on at him about being late. His explanation that he had met an old schoolmate only made her more furious.
