    Closing threads

I have just been unable to submit a post in a thread because the OP had closed it.

I appreciate that mods should be able to close a thread for a number of reasons, but I don't think that we ordinary mortals should be able to. Once a thread has been started, it is in effect public property, to which any member should be free to contribute. The OP may have had enough, but that should not mean that others cannot have their say.

    Re: Closing threads

I agree. In the meantime, can you post a link and one of us can reopen it? (By the way, there's nothing ordinary about anyone on this forum. Mortal, maybe but ordinary, never!)
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

By the way, I see that I have the option to close this thread. I don't think I should have. I may wish to say no more, but others may.

    Re: Closing threads

I've reopened it. I think the option is open to all users to close threads in all the public forums. I wonder if there's a way to limit it to threads other than the Support Area but technically, this section is no different from all the others (except the moderator bits).

    Re: Closing threads

I don't see any option to close threads. In fact, I can't even close my own test thread in the General Discussions forum.

    Re: Closing threads

In the message which I am now writing (in a thread started by me) there is a little

just below the bottom left-hand corner of the text box.

(A little later) The bullet point which you can see here is actually a tick box. It turned into a bullet point when I submitted the post.

    Re: Closing threads

Does it work if you try to close someone else's thread? No settings have been changed.

    Re: Closing threads

No. It works only on threads I have started myself. Knowing that you can re-open it, I'll close this thread now.
