Question RE: Capital Letter after Colon (Question)

    Hi folks,

I have been trying to find out the reasons why authors make the decisions to present certain grammatical which they do.

Some writers use a capital letter after a colon while others do not. For example:

"In slow motion: the wave descended, buildings were torn from their foundations, and the heavens opened."

"In slow motion: The wave descended, buildings were torn from their foundations, and the heavens opened."

As you can see there is a capital letter (after the colon) in the second example. I see equal amounts of both variants throughout my reading.

Many thanks in advance for any kind assistance offered here . . .

    Ta,

    Paul

I have to say, I always did find the above second example visually strange. It was almost as if a capital letter had popped out of nowhere!

However, many writers do still employ this method!
