    Song Titles Question

I've always been told to put song titles inside quotation marks, but when I look on the back of a CD or in my music app, the song titles are never in quotation marks. Why is this the case? Are music companies doing it wrong, or is there another rule about titles that I am unaware of?

    Re: Song Titles Question

There is no rule about putting song titles in quotation marks. The choice to do so would depend entirely on the text type. If using quotation marks is justified, it will likely be in order to set the title apart from other parts of the text. That is, to make it stand out clearly so that the reader can recognise that it is a song title. There's no need to do this on the back of a CD cover because it's obvious what you're looking at.

    Re: Song Titles Question

I think there is such a rule. It applies only in material where the titles of songs have to be distinct from the surrounding text. Song titles can be presented in quotation marks or in italics.
